Rastak Concert: Iranian folk music in contemporary style

Rastak, a new ensemble for contemporary Persian folk music, was formed as an experimental music group in 1997. Nowadays, the group brings together twenty enthusiastic musicians, all graduates of the best universities in Iran and fully devoted to investigate Iranian folk. Negar Ezazi is a percussionist and costume designer for this group.
Iran has always been home to various tribes which preserved and nourished their own traditions alongside with the calture of their ancient motherland.
Rastak’s priority is set on collecting, recording and interpreting the richness and variety of persian folk music, to further present it to the international audience. Their music is based on extensive research, the result of which are exceptional records, such as All My Homeland People, a fascinating collection of folk ballads released in 2010, or a record from 2013, Sornay-e Norooz, which resembles the sound of spring in various part of Iran. Although they play concerts all over the world, the members of Rastak do not stop collecting new insprirations and constantly work in recording studios.
